EUCCS mentioned in key EC Security documents

15 April 2025

Earlier in April, EUCCS was identified as one of the key actions of ProtectEU, the new European Internal Security Strategy, 2025-2027. The strategy was presented on 1st April 2025 at the European Parliament plenary session in Strasbourg. This document complements the EU Preparedness Union Strategy launched earlier in March 2025. The Preparedness Strategy elicits an all-around approach to predicting complex crises and enhancing the EU’s preventive and responsive measures. It action Plan, structured around seven strategic lines, aims to foster a whole-of-society response to preparedness by emphasizing inter and cross-sectoral coordination, with the ultimate goal of building resilience and preparing for future challenges.

ProtectEU outlines an overarching way of addressing both internal and external security threats, which focuses on EU competencies to anticipate, mitigate, and respond to emerging risks. The document highlights eight key recommendations:

  • Strengthening internal security cooperation
  • Counterterrorism and violent extremism
  • Regional security and partnerships
  • Mitigating cybersecurity threats
  • Global security engagement
  • Improved visa policies and border security
  • Operational cooperation with third countries
  • Security of infrastructure under the global gateway

The EU’s Security Strategy 2025-2027 provides the foundation for a comprehensive and cohesive approach towards protecting EU citizens and securing the EU’s priorities on a global scale. With the acknowledgment that the realization of a pan-European system of systems is paramount to the achievement of these goals, EUCCS Preparation programme is now expected to gear up its efforts to respond to the call by the Commission to ensure that EUCCS will be realized by 2030.
