The EUCCS Testbeds

EUCCS Preparation approach is to procure mission critical mobile broadband testbeds that are operated at the national level. Previously, pilots were fully controlled by the developers and buyers did not have an opportunity to engage the operation of these. In EUCCS Preparation, practitioners are able to:

• drive the operation of the testbeds,
• use them for their own investigation into MCX technologies.

The EUCCS Prep testbed interconnects MCX services of 12 countries. This testbed tries to pre-create the architecture of the EUCCS where each European country will procure its own MCX services. This allows responders to roam with mission critical services enabling operational mobility.

Each of the vendors are tasked to provide three MCX servers that interconnect between themselves. MCX servers are under the management of the 12 national test management teams (NTMs) who provide mobile MCX services to responder practitioners in their country.

The three servers of each vendor are interconnected together.

NTMs are in contact through the EUCCS Prep to feedback the outcome of the technical validation and practitioner evaluation.

The Components of the EUCCS Prep Testbed

The EUCCS Preparation testbeds and trials iterative development is carried out through four activities:

• Procurement of MCX servers, devices and applications – enabling nationally managed, pan-European connected MCX services.
• Technical validation and maturity – testing of the technical solution, provide feedback to contractors to improve and build technical maturity in the technology.
• Practitioner Evaluation – evaluation of the utility of the MCX devices, applications and services
• Operational procedures – develop new operational procedures that will be necessary for cross border and pan-European cooperation.
