EUCNC Preparation at 2025 EUCNC

10 June 2025

The 2025 EuCNC & 6G Summit brought together key stakeholders in telecommunications and critical infrastructure to discuss the next generation of network technologies. A central moment was panel 3: Building 6G Networks with Resilience in Mind EUCCS preparation coordinator represented the programme in a panel discussion.

Panellists included:

  • David Lund (President of Public Safety Communication Europe, BE)
  • Mikko Uusitalo (Nokia Bell Labs Finland Site Lead, FI)
  • Akihiro Nakao (Co-Chair of XGMF, JP)
  • Hannu Nikurautio (Director, NATO DIANA 6G Test Center, FI)
  • Tommy Svensson (Professor at Chalmers University of Technology, SE)

Chair: Matti Latva-aho (Director for 6G Flagship, FI)

Below are some of the key messages that emerged from the panel discussion:

– There is a growing need to strengthen defence collaboration: as hybrid threats intensify, Europe must develop deeper synergies between public safety authorities and civil defence actors. Collaboration between defence, emergency services, and telecom providers is critical to ensure continuity and response capacity in times of crisis.

Resilience must be a requirement – not an option- for mobile operators: for EUCCS to function as a secure and sovereign system, telecom operators must actively implement resilience measures. This includes building redundancy, applying secure-by-design principles, and investing in self-healing, AI-enabled infrastructure that can adapt in real time to threats.

– Societal resilience depends on resilient mobile critical communications: our societies rely increasingly on mobile networks for everything from emergency alerts to disaster coordination. Integrating critical communications into a more resilient commercial mobile network architecture will create shared value- not just for emergency services, but for all citizens and sectors across Europe.
